Giving this my best shot! Day 1

Decided that today would be my quit day.  I have quit once before, stopped for a couple years, and returned.  Been smoking again for around 2 years.  I got a wake up call from the doctor today due to my breathing.  Also, since I have a chest infection, and I feel that I can conquer this the same way that I did when I actually quit a few years ago, that this may be a really good attempt at it.  This time I am going at it cold turkey, unless I decide on going to a NRT if the withdrawl becomes too bad.  My last quit a few years back, I was only on a patch for a few weeks, and was starting to get sick on them, so I stopped.  I need positive encouragement, hoping I can get that here.

My Milage:

My Quit Date: 3/31/2009
Smoke-Free Days: 0
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0
Amount Saved: $0.00

DAY 3 Insanity

I am on day 3, and as it was the last time I quit, day 3 is always the worst!  Plenty of energy to kick it the first few days, but day 3, the addict voice always seems to win.  I admitted today that I needed a little more help today, and got some NRT gum to help, although I am only going to use for the super severe.  Anything to keep the nico-demon from winning, but today is a super rough day!

Day 4 ... KABOOM!

So... I slipped.  A good 3 day run, and a slip up today.  I am quite ashamed and angry that I let the smoking win a round.  I think it was working well until I got to work, and old habits came into play.

The thing is though, I let the smoking win this round, but the war is not over.  I did the exact same thing on my last quit, had the most icky cig, and then plowed right through.  Same happened here, and man what a learning experience!  This will make me fight even harder.  My apologies to everyone however, I wanted to go through this without slipping.

My Milage:

My Quit Date: 3/31/2009
Smoke-Free Days: 4
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 48

Day 4 ... KABOOM!

A little post that I put in my blog, don't know how many read the blogs, so I am posting here:

I sat here and thought about the slip for a long time last night, and what it almost cost me.  A reset?  Telling everyone I gave up?  Going back to the hell of smoking?  I am not going to give up what I started, having a couple of the hard days behind me.  The hardest thing to do is make a post that you slipped, and know you are letting people down here that are giving you heartfelt encouragement.   So, a couple new reasons not to have another smoke:

No "give up" posts to disappoint everyone
That slip was my final goodbye... from smoking.
Keep my quitting attitude going, I am on day 5... need to know in my head that a slip was just that, and I have been and continue to work at it.
Because I realize now you get cool little logos for milestones.

Hopefully everyone still sees my resolve in quitting.  The one thing that has stayed in my head was something that bobinsc wrote to me that this is my quit, and that it could be seen in my resolve.  I hope so.  I slipped on day 4 and week 3 on my first quit that lasted for 2 years.  This time, I am taking out the slip on week 3, and this will be my last quit that lasts forever.

I may have lost this round, but I am going to win the war!

Day 4 ... KABOOM!

Sparky, I apologize about the meter.  I have it changed now, didn't think to change it. Yes, I smoked, and I will own up to it.  Back on the wagon today, no smokes, and more determined than ever.  Like I said before, the one time I did quit for a couple years... exact same thing happened at day 4.  I am a bit stronger on this quit than I was in the previous one.  I am not going to dwell on the slip or having the smoke (I tend to call it a slip, because I let my "addict self" win), I could have done nothing this week and smoked the 60 some odd cigarettes I would have consumed in 5 days.  The way I am going at this now, if I let this get me down and go back, who's to say when the next quit attempt would be?  I think sometimes are mindsets can be different, and from looking on here no two quit attempts are a like.  Some goof up like I did, some take a few tries, some go cold turkey,  some use NRT, etc.  Whatever I have to tell myself or do to win at this point, that is what I am doing.  The quit is a personal one, just like it is for everyone else.  This is just "under the microscope" a little bit more since we come here for counseling.  I couldn't have come this far without this place.  Good luck Sparky... you have made it past week one, this is your time and your quit.   I have looked on here for the past few days, and have seen what a journey this has been for you.  It's tough, but you are doing better than I am right now, so keep at it!

Hi old and new friends alike!

Good job PB!  Keep up the good work!  Money is such a good motivation.  $20.00 a carton hike is certainly a wake up call.  Never really bought by the carton, but was spending around $12.50 a pack, which is equivalent to a $100.00 carton.  We are quitting around the same time, so lets hope we both make it a permanent one!

Day 4 ... KABOOM!

Today is 1 week since I started, yay!  But I had a slip, so I am considering this day 3 smoke free done.  Yes!  Here comes day 4 the sequel.  Today was tough, but better than the first couple days.  Still had that dry mouth.  And yes, today was a smoke free workday!  I've not smoked in all my "smoking triggers" now... and now it is just keeping the momentum going.  4 more days until the endless hell week comes to an end.

My Milage:

My Quit Date: 4/3/2009
Smoke-Free Days: 3
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 42
Amount Saved: $21.00
